JJ New Media – Our Story

This Cairns-based communications consultancy service specialises in crafting effective copy and written content for all mediums.

Locally owned and operated by Julie Johnston (nee Bosanquet), JJ New Media was established in 2014 to provide personalised services to clients seeking expertise and advice with all of their marketing, public relations, social media and communications requirements.

Julie is a dynamic marketing, promotions and communications professional, with more than 15 years experience in the North Queensland market. Graduating from James Cook University with a Bachelor of Journalism in 1997, Julie entered the world of marketing occupying several diverse roles at the North Queensland Cowboys, including Media Officer, Promotions Executive and Public Relations Manager.

Flying the Townsville-coop, Julie spent 12 months travelling and working her way around the United Kingdom before returning to her birthplace in Cairns, Tropical North Queensland. Taking up the reigns as Marketing Manager of Cairns Regional Gallery, Julie embraced the visual arts industry for two years, before making a move to tourism and starting in a communications position at Skyrail Rainforest Cableway.

Julie spent eight (8) years crafting communications, marketing and public relations for the Chapman Group and its affiliated companies Skyrail Rainforest Cableway, Skyrail-ITM, the Skyrail Rainforest Foundation and Cairns Harbour Lights. Services provided included: marketing and promotions, internal and external communications, media liaison, brand development and management and copy writing for a raft of purposes including editorials, brochures, capability statements, expressions of interest, submissions, tenders and award winning tourism award submissions (local, state and national levels).

During this time, Julie declined an offer to join the Queensland Tourism Awards Judging Panel but accepted a position on the Tropical North Queensland Tourism Awards Judging Panel (2010-2012 and 2014).

A new decade brought new opportunities and in 2010 Julie left the Chapman Group to take up dual roles: job-sharing the Marketing Officer’s position at Tanks Arts Centre (Cairns Regional Council) and working with her husband Richard Johnston, at their on-line businesses RJ New Designs and Cairns Dive Adventures.

Julie took a professional hiatus in 2012-2013, starting a family and welcoming son Ethan Ross Johnston into the world. In 2014 Julie opened another chapter, launching JJ New Media communications consultancy.

Writing is Julie’s passion. It was what she studied and has been the cornerstone of her professional career.

Good writing is essential to effective marketing, communications, public relations and social media. JJ New Media looks forward to working with you.
